PARALELS VOL. II
Parallels Vol. II is inspired by the echoes between Japan and Mexico. In Vol. I, we explored these affinities through traditional cultures; for Vol. II, we extend this search into 20th-century design and architecture, a dimension deeply rooted in Casa Quieta’s DNA.
The brief draws from the ideas of Donald Keene, who articulated with remarkable clarity the essence of Japanese aesthetic sensibility. From this point of departure, the collection looks beyond form, moving through it to reach the atmospheric, the gestural and the symbolic, exploring how space, objects and everyday life can become carriers of meaning.
The proposal is articulated around three axes where shared sensibilities meet:
-Nostalgia, mystery and everyday rituals
-Shadow, transition and void as elements of design
-The trace of time in matter
Alongside these concepts, the collection enters into dialogue with our personal 20th-century icons, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Isamu Noguchi, George Nakashima, Tadao Ando and Luis Barragán, whose trajectories, developed primarily throughout the 20th century, explore a shared sensibility across different geographies and languages: contemplative, essential and deeply meaningful.
These creators used the language inherited from the Modern Movement —formal abstraction, structural clarity, material honesty and economy of means— not only as a functional solution, but as a vehicle to create interior, contemplative and transcendent experiences. In their hands, this language moved beyond being a formal or functional solution, becoming a way of producing silence, contemplation and a spatial experience charged with meaning.
